We are reaching out to invite you and your staff to the New York State Marine Education Association (NYSMEA) Annual Conference, taking place on May 30 at Stony Brook Southampton College. This year’s theme is Community Currents: Coastal Learning Powered by Traditional Knowledge and Innovation, and we would be honored to have educators from across Long Island join us.
The conference brings together general education teachers, special education teachers, related service providers, environmental educators, administrators, and community partners who share a passion for meaningful, accessible learning experiences connected to our local marine and natural environments.
Our goal is simple: to help educators dive deeper into coastal science, explore multi‑sensory and inclusive instructional strategies, and bring back classroom‑ready ideas that support students of all abilities.
The day will include:
We are also inviting teachers—general or special education—to consider presenting a workshop. If you have a lesson, project, field experience, or instructional strategy connected to marine or coastal learning, we would love to showcase your work. First-time presenters are warmly welcomed. We look forward to presenting workshops to help teachers become more knowledgeable about the new NYS Regents assessments in Biology and Earth Science. CTLE credits will be available to participants seeking professional development hours.

Thank you for supporting meaningful, inclusive, and environmentally connected learning opportunities for students across New York. We hope to see you—and perhaps even your workshop—at Stony Brook Southampton on May 30.
